If one were to describe the Lake George region of New York State, the majestic Adirondack mountain range overlooking the island-dotted lakes would surely be mentioned. But the area's natural beauty is not all it can be proud of. It also possesses a rich heritage of boats that navigated its waters, and automobiles and carriages that traveled its roads.
Vessels
and vehicles were a vital part of the evolving scene in Lake George andthe
greater Adirondack region since pre-colonial times. They greatly affected
the lives of the people who lived, worked, and vacationed there. But what
does the future hold for the preservation of this important history? The
Lake George Antique Boat Museum has a plan:
Lake George Antique Boat Museum, which has been granted a provisional charter by the University of the State of New York Education Department,is dedicated to educating the general public about its transportation heritage, particularly boats, automobiles, and horse-drawn carriages.
We are currently seeking a permanent home for our collections and archives, where all may come and learn about this fascinating and rich history.
By
becoming a member and taking an active part in building the Lake George
Antique Boat Museum, you will help to preserve an important part
of Adirondack history. Don't wait until many important pieces of that history
have scattered and memories have faded.
